CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to perform dogging

Our Dogging course teaches you the selection and inspection of lifting equipment, various slinging techniques used for moving a load and, guiding a hoist or crane operator who is moving the load – when the load is out of the operator’s view using hand signals, whistles, or radios ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Prerequisite: No prerequisite for this course
  • Duration: 5 days
  • Assessment: Theory and Practical
  • Qualification: CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging

Our Dogging course details the understanding of:

  • Interpreting Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and identify site hazards like powerlines and/or unstable ground.
  • Determining the weight, dimensions, and centre of gravity of a load through mathematical calculations.
  • Selecting appropriate lifting gear (e.g., chains, synthetic slings, shackles) for the task.
  • Inspecting gear for defects and apply Working Load Limit (WLL) knowledge, including calculating the “deration” of capacity based on sling angles.
  • Implementing risk controls such as signage and barricades.
  • Prepare the load destination to ensure it is stable and capable of bearing the weight.
  • Safely attach and secure lifting gear using various slinging methods.
  • Directing crane or hoist movements using standardised hand signals, whistles, and two-way radios, especially when the load is out of the operator’s sight.
  • Correctly disconnect and store lifting gear according to workplace procedures.
  • Identifying and isolating any damaged equipment for reporting and repair.
Assessment and Licensing
  • Assessments: Includes written theory, calculation tests, and practical hands-on tests.
  • Licence: Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for CPCCLDG3001 and a Notice of Satisfactory Assessment (NSA) email for your SafeWork NSW High Risk Work Licence.
    • Once you receive your NSA, you have 60 days to obtain your SafeWork NSW Licence.
  • Requirements: Must be 18+ years old, have adequate English literacy/numeracy, and have appropriate PPE (hard hat, steel cap boots, hi-vis).
